Aftershock, a Fox-owned multimedia and game development studio, is teaming up with Marvel to produce an epic action role-playing game set in the Marvel universe. With Marvel Heroes Omega continuing to thrive on video game consoles and PC, Aftershock will be developing its own unique multiplayer RPG that aims to exceed fan expectations. The new game will let you battle against other players from all over the world as you interact with your favorite Marvel heroes and villains, the press release revealed.
Jay Ong, Senior Vice President of Games and Innovation for Marvel Entertainment, said this in a statement:
“Aftershock is creating something special and we are thrilled to finally announce this news. The game will be the full package: an exciting storyline, epic moments with Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains, and incredible visuals that truly bring our characters to life. It’s shaping up to be one of our biggest and boldest projects in our mobile portfolio, and we know it will exceed our fans’ expectations.”
Could this new Marvel game compete with the most popular MMORPGs like The World of Warcraft? It sounds like this is an ambituous project that has great potential to capture a wide audience. Here's what Aaron Loeb, President of Studios for FoxNext Games, said:
“The Aftershock Los Angeles team, led by Amir Rahimi, is developing an explosive action mobile game set in the Marvel Universe that will feature an innovative game design with stunning graphics. To team up with Marvel on our first game at FoxNext Games is a dream partnership.”
No additional details about the game have been provided but it sounds like the studio must be big as it's currently working on multiple projects, including an Avatar massively mobile strategy game (James Cameron's Avatar, not The Last Airbender).
